Cultivating Urban Resilience, One Tree Pit at a Time

If you've walked along Shore Road recently, you may have noticed that some of the neighborhood's tree pits are looking a little different.

What began with volunteers planting hundreds of spring bulbs has grown into a larger effort to restore these overlooked spaces as vibrant gardens that support pollinators, improve the health of our urban forest, and bring more beauty to our streets.

Thanks to the Con Edison Climate Resilience Grant, the first fifteen tree pits have been thoughtfully planted with resilient, ecologically valuable species. Each one is unique, demonstrating how even the smallest green spaces can make a meaningful difference for wildlife and the community.
